About Mark Bussanich
Mark Bussanich returned to the practice of criminal law in June 2017 to work for the B.C. Prosecution Service. Mark worked out of the Surrey office until May 2024. He is now based out of the Regional office in New Westminster prosecuting trial cases. Prior to joining the Crown, Mark Bussanich was at the Law Society of British Columbia for 3.5 years. He began as a staff lawyer in the Professional Conduct group investigating allegations of professional misconduct, breaches of Law Society Rules and conduct unbecoming lawyers. For his last year at the Law Society, Mark acted as Discipline Counsel to the Law Society in citation hearings, reviews, judicial reviews and appeals. He has spoken on behalf of the Law Society at Canadian Bar Association and Continuing Legal Education forums and at the Annual Crown Counsel Conference regarding professional conduct issues. Prior to working at the Law Society, Mark practiced as a criminal lawyer. He has appeared in all levels of court in British Columbia and he has worked as an ad hoc prosecutor. His practice included defending persons and companies charged with Occupational Safety and Health offences and administrative law related to driving offences. While in law school, he participated in the Law Students Legal Advice Program and the Criminal Clinic Program. He worked as a Law Clerk at the Supreme Court of British Columbia performing research for five judges. Mark has volunteered as an examiner and presenter for the Law Society of British Columbia's Professional Legal Training Course. He has also volunteered as a supervising lawyer for the UBC Law Students Legal Advice Clinic and the UBC Criminal Clinic Program. He has served on the faculty of the Continuing Legal Education Society's Criminal Law Bootcamp and he has lectured other lawyers on the nature and use of criminal record checks. Within the B.C. Prosecution Service, Mark has been a member of the Policy Committee. He serves on the Information Management and Internet Technology Committee. He is also serving as a Director on the B.C. Crown Counsel Association.
