About Mark Darrall

I elected to leave traditional architectural practice in 2015 and joined the Indiana Department of Health to return the favor for all the opportunities the state and its residents have given me. This allows me to apply my almost 40 years of building-related experience in a different way - helping designers and owners bring their healthcare projects to completion by ensuring compliance with the State's rules. My experience as a project manager and recent experience working on permitting construction projects across the nation have given me valuable insight into what project teams have to endure in permitting. Approaching each project and team with empathy, I try to make what most consider a burden to be, well, less of a burden! I've been involved in the design and construction of building systems since the age of 18. I had over twenty years' experience in varied fields including HVAC and plumbing design and material handling before deciding on a career change to pursue architecture. I've been able to bring this past experience as well as my lifelong interest in science, technology, history and design to my current work as a plan reviewer, able to speak with some intelligence to all parties in the building process.
