Building successful strategies and product portfolios for growth and profitability in a complex, technical business. My career at Husky Injection Molding has been tremendously diverse and provided experience under a variety of ownership structures (Private/ Founder, Public, Canadian Private Equity, US Private Equity) and a range of progressively challenging roles. Husky is the undisputed global leader in injection molding equipment for the beverage packaging segment (PET bottle performs and caps/ closures). My most recent roles were in business development for the cap/ closure segment. Revenues more than tripled and profit margins were over double as a result of the strategy developed and executed during this time. M&A was a key part of the strategy to grow the closure business – I led the development of the strategy and business case for the acquisition of one of the largest toolmakers for these products. I leveraged our PE owners’ extensive toolkits to scrutinize M&A opportunities but also developed specific insights on the product and service synergies with prospective targets. Clearly communicating and refining the strategy at the executive team and board levels was critical to alignment and execution. A key part of capturing market share was complementing M&A with effective organic growth. Collecting the ‘voice of the customer’ directly on a global basis and leading the sales process for new and/ or high risk products allowed me to form a deep technical understanding of product requirements but also determine unmet needs. This has led to the development of new product lines responsible for significant market share gains. I am passionate about identifying the winning technical and financial aspects of a new business opportunity. I am also acutely aware of many internal and external factors that can contribute to its success or failure. Combining these insights is where I can offer a distinct benefit.
