About Mark Gray

It has to be fun. Some way, some how, in whatever context is appropriate, the best people, doing the best work as individuals and teams, always describe their top-tier success as fun. They say things like "we are having a blast" while dominating a market, or "I can't imagine working anywhere else", because of the enjoyment of working with friends. Getting 110% out of people is baloney. Don't say it and don't expect it. It is simply not a sustainable business force. Instead, try getting individuals and teams, to reach 90-95% of their actual effectiveness. Then work in 1% increments for improvement. I practice teaching this rule as the foundation to continuous learning and "getting better every day". The chronicled "breakthrough" gains that we search for, are embedded in this rule. My experience leading talented teams who can describe their success factors, is something I wish everyone could share. The truth is, tripping the flywheel is rare and I totally understand why. Strategy can be easy to write but all too often, easier to re-write. I love to know people and learn their emotional intelligence. My passion is to organize responsibility and accountability, not around the obvious, but in ways that provoke the next level of effectiveness. Sometimes my efforts are aggressive and unconventional. How could that not be fun?
