I am the lead Physical and Outdoor Education teacher at The Spires School in Salisbury, an SEMH school which specialises in working with children aged 6-18 with trauma and attachment disorders, the majority of whom are in the care system or have social services’ involvement. In this role I have created and oversee the delivery of a trauma-informed curriculum that supports pupils to develop their social, emotional and independence skills through engaging in paddlesports, mountain-biking, hiking, navigation and bushcraft as well as swimming and more traditionally taught sports. The curriculum also supports pupils to work towards and achieve Duke of Edinburgh Awards which involve multi-day expeditions with overnight camping.
