About Mark Hamrick

I’m Senior Economic Analyst and Washington Bureau Chief at Bankrate where I help make sense of the economy and financial markets for Americans trying to reach their goals. After two decades leading business news for AP Broadcast in Washington, I joined Bankrate in 2013. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of appearing across radio, television, print, and digital platforms hundreds of times each year to offer trusted, clear, and calm analysis. I’m one of the few journalists to attend Federal Reserve news conferences since they began in 2011. I’ve twice served as president of major journalism organizations — the National Press Club and SABEW — where I founded the First Amendment Committee to champion press freedom. I also mentor emerging professionals through Red Ventures’ Road to Hire program. My commitment to financial literacy and success runs deep, shaped by both purpose and personal history. My pioneering Hamrick ancestor emigrated to Virginia before the American Revolution. Fifth great-grandfather, Benjamin Hamrick, fought under General George Washington in the Revolutionary War. I live just outside the Beltway with my wife, Jeanne. Our son Christopher lives in Los Angeles. I love to cook and proudly serve as our family’s “chef.”
