About Mark Hansen

My career has taken two distinct paths-sometimes independently, but, most often simultaneously. First and foremost, I am a performing musician and teacher. As a performing musician, I usually express myself as either a solo pianist, a collaborative pianist, an organist, or a choral conductor. As a teacher, I usually concentrate on music theory and applied piano. The secondary path has taken me through several positions in academic administration. Over some twenty years, I have served as Director of General Education (Illinois Wesleyan University), as Founding Director of the Sunderman Conservatory of Music (Gettysburg College) and as a Department Chair (Western Illinois University and Boise State University). I have recently been designated as a Steinway artist, joining the roster of many current pianists of note as well as luminary figures such as my mentor Alicia de Larrocha and my doctoral professor Joseph Banowetz.
