About Mark Harden

I am a Colorado-based writer and editor with decades of experience working for print and digital news outlets. Now I am a writer for the University of Colorado School of Medicine at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. Previously I was editor-in-chief at Colorado Community Media, a family of 24 newspapers; managing editor of Colorado Politics magazine; news director, new media editor and reporter at the Denver Business Journal; and city editor, online news editor, national-foreign editor and music critic at The Denver Post. I also have been a contributor of reporting, editing and commentary at The Denver Post, Rocky Mountain PBS, The Colorado Sun, Front Porch newspaper and other outlets. Earlier in my career I was an editor and reporter at the San Francisco Examiner, Tacoma News Tribune and Everett (Washington) Herald. I have strong digital experience. I helped inaugurate breaking news coverage at DenverPost.com and DenverBusinessJournal.com and guide them to considerable audience growth. As a reporter I have covered a variety of beats, including politics, business, health, science, the environment, education, media and the arts. I have received numerous national and regional journalism awards, including the national SABEW Best in Business award for breaking news coverage, the national Science Journalism Award, the American Eagle Award from American City Business Journals, the Morton Margolin Prize from the University of Denver for Colorado business reporting, and several recent awards from the Colorado Press Association and Society of Professional Journalists. As an editor I helped lead The Denver Post's December 2006 blizzard coverage, which was a finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news.
