Background
About Mark Hargreaves
Over 20 years experience treating occlusion and TMD as well 40 years + as a general dentist. My practice is now limited to treating: Uncomfortable bites, chewing and functional problems, issues with the jaw joint and jaw pain, TMD, headaches and related face and neck pain, difficult to diagnose 'toothaches and face pain' Giving you a healthy working jaw and bite, making a difference to how you look, feel and function Specialties: I have a particular interest in Occlusion and TMD. I have been a long term member of the British Society for Occlusal Studies and am currently part of their panel of instructors as well as a committee member. I am also a Life Member of the American Equilibration Society, having been a member for over 20 years and recently was made a Fellow of that organisation. I can thoroughly recommend their annual meeting in Chicago (February) to any dentist with an interest in Occlusion or TMD As well as being an Instructor and course organiser for BSOS I am happy to consider lectures in these subjects to interested groups of dentists. Occlusion is a branch of dentistry which relates to the dynamics of the teeth and jaws - how they normally function, moving against each other and how they touch and fit together. It also covers how to correct problems, e.g. a bad bite, worn, cracked or broken teeth. TMD describes a range of conditions relating to chewing muscle or jaw pain, including the jaw joint (just in front of your ear). Often these conditions relate to clenching or grinding of the teeth (bruxism) and may be described as parafunction. Many people suffer from TMD over their lifetime, It's one of the commonest forms of regular, chronic headaches. The group who are most likely to suffer from TMD is women in their twenties and thirties. It can be chronic and debilitating but unfortunately most dentists and doctors do not understand and shy away from treating it. I currently offer sessions in two practices, Kendrick View and Prospect Street in Reading but would be happy to consider offering sessions in other practices in Berkshire, South Oxfordshire and North Hampshire
