In 2010 I started my mining career as a Shift process operator @ Iluka Resources. Where I learnt to process mineral sands with the use of magnetic drum and rear earth separators, kiln reduction acid leaching, hydro-cloning, filter bed and natural gas drying drying, In this process we turned Ileminite into synthetic rutile. After learning the control room and DCS operations I advanced through my Cert 3 in process mining, as well as my intermediate boiler and steam turbine tickets in 2011. In 2013 I was a Shift Process Operator at Citic Pacific Mining operating VPA Filters, Thickeners and storage tanks, end product stackers and monitoring conveyors as well as relief control room operations (utilizing Citec 7.1 and Alan Bradley). In 2013 I started as a shift operations Technician at Bluewaters power station. I currently conduct the safe day to day running of the two boilers and turbines on the Yokogawa DCS system, as well as field operations of our dual fired 440 MW oil/coal fired system. These duties also include liaising with market operations, network controllers and maintenance personnel. Our permit safe system is an electronic system called SAGE SURPASS and we utilize SAP for maintenance tasks. With this I create, issue PTW's and Isolation certificates for daily maintenance. I have since starting at Bluewaters I have furthered my career into power generation and distribution field by obtaining my Advance Boiler ticket and started my involvement in the sites Emergency Response Team. My main goal is to be adequately trained in many disciplines of the Mining, Resources and Energy sector. So I can pass on the knowledge of my experiences and learnings to the next generation within the industry to help provide a safe and reliable work force.
