Background
About Mark Horneman
I have had the pleasure of working in the Geomatics industry since 2006. I have been involved in many different projects. Recently I have been working on land development projects. This includes all aspects related to geomatics, from legal retracement surveys, submitting subdivision applications, drafting legal plans, preparing agreements, topographic surveys, site surveys, and of course construction services. Here at CIMA I oversee 3D scanning surveys for industrial applications, large earth works projects, and scanning of busy roads and highways. I am able to work with all survey data including GNSS, total station, scan data, GIS, air photos, and additional types as well. I remain familiar with field practices as I like to get out to the field when possible. Some of my previous experience includes working on large scale projects for Shell, Esso, Suncor, and Enbridge. During these projects I experienced leadership at its best and was able to learn by the examples set. These projects were centered on construction. Some new construction, some revamps, and some as built work. I worked on the Shell Scotford Upgrader project in doing construction layout. I have also worked at the ESSO refinery, Suncor (Petro-Canada) refinery, Enbridge, and BA Energy site. All of these sites were located in the Edmonton area. I was involved in surveying a pipeline right-of-way from Fort McMurry to Fort Saskatchewan. My very first job in the oil and gas industry was at a machine shop in Leduc. I worked for Vanoil Equipment Inc. filling various roles around the shop and eventually I became a qualified machinist on a CNC lathe. I have a wide variety of educational experiences. I graduated with a Computer Systems Tech. Diploma which I used to do contract programming. While contracting I was working as a machinist. I completed the first year apprenticeship for machining where I earning the top marks in the class. A friend of mine suggested I look into Geomatics and I have never looked back. I finished my Geomatics Diploma in 2007 and I finished my Geomatics Engineering Degree in 2012. Taking Geomatics Engineering at the University of Calgary brought all my education and real world experiences together in a unique way. I truly do subscribe to the concept of lifelong learning.
