An entrepreneur who used to be an introverted techie geek but now gets satisfaction from growing the business and coaching the team to develop and expand their careers.Simblox is an MSP (managed service provider) specialising providing customer focussed IT support to small and medium businesses. IT is critical for every business and it is essential that you get the best from your investment. I love a challenge and away from Simblox I run ultramarathons. An ultramarathon is a race distance greater than a marathon and I am currently working towards completing a 200 mile race. Having failed the first three attempts it is proving to be my hardest running challenge yet. After University I became a desktop support engineer and progressed to looking after server’s at the enterprise level. I ended up helping a small business as a favour and the owner of that business then introduced me to another one and encouraged me to startup on my own. Running my own business was never a goal but the more I thought about it the more it appealed and I started Simblox in 2005. At the time I had no idea what was involved but had more than enough confidence in my technical skills and embraced the opportunity to learn a range of new skills.Whilst I still love playing with tech, building a company has helped me to learn many skills never previously considered and I enjoy these just as much. As an introvert the horror associated with a sales networking event was almost enough to put me off but treating it as just another challenge I now enjoy them. I will never be an extrovert and small talk is still a bit of a mystery but I love finding out about what other people are up to and any opportunities where I can help. As an established IT provider in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire we look after the IT support needs for several small businesses across various sectors. Our customers range in size from individual consultants to those with 150 people. The next stage of our growth is to become established outwith Aberdeen and this lets me enjoy yet another challenge.If you are using Microsoft 365 there is a good chance you will not be making use of all the technologies available and you may not be fully exploring the opportunities to improve business efficiency and innovation.
