He has appeared with Quincy Jones Orchestra, Max Weinberg Big Band, Grover Mitchell Orchestra, Art Baron's Duke's Men, David Berger Jazz Orchestra, Lavay Smith, Brian Pareschi Quintet, among others. Growing up in Chicago, Mark was immersed in the blues-drenched tradition that produced hometown heroes such as Johnny Griffin and Von Freeman. Moving to Detroit after college, he began working with the new generation of jazz lions there, as a member of bands led by Rodney Whitaker and Bobby Battle, and working alongside Craig Taborn, Gerald Cleaver, Karriem Riggins, and Greg Burk. All-night jam sessions locking horns with James Carter and Larry Smith, workshops with the legendary Marcus Belgrave, and his weekly residency at Bert's Marketplace honed Mark's chops Detroit-style. Upon moving to New York, Mark toured and recorded with The Harlem Nutcracker, featuring such luminaries as Jerome Richardson, Jerry Dodgion, Britt Woodman. He has played jazz clubs around the globe-Birdland NYC, Birdland (Vienna). Dizzy's Club New York, Half Note (Athens), Fasching (Stockholm), Green Mill (Chicago), Nefertiti (Goteborg), The Derby (LA), and Dakota (St. Paul) to name a few. Mark has played orchestra pits for Broadway shows Hairspray and All Shook Up, Smokey Joe's Café (Off-Broadway), appeared on the PBS TV show Mark Twain Prize, and radio on A Prairie Home Companion. He appears on stage in the Robert DeNiro film The Good Shepherd. Mark holds a M.M. in Performance from the Manhattan School of Music
