About Mark Kelley

Mark Kelley has a career that spans more than three decades at CBC News, from his beginnings as a radio reporter covering referendum era politics in Quebec, to co-host of the fifth estate, the leading investigative program in Canada. Whether he was spending seven days as a substitute teacher in a struggling B.C. school, living in a homeless shelter in Montreal, or driving an RV across the country during a federal election, Kelley has always gone one step further to tell the stories that matter to Canadians. Kelley has been front and center for some of the most dramatic stories in recent memory. As host of CBC News Morning, he was the first Canadian broadcaster on the air during 9-11. He covered the war in Afghanistan, the revolutionary rise of the Arab Spring in Egypt, the aftermath of tsunamis in Japan and Indonesia, and the story behind the deadly collapse of a garment factory in Bangladesh. That story-"Made in Bangladesh" has won awards from the Canadian Association of Journalists, the RTDNA, a Golden Sheaf award from the Yorkton Film festival, the South Asian Journalists Association, as well as an International Emmy Award. Kelley has also won 6 Gemini/ Canadian Screen awards for his work on CBC News programs. He was named a distinguished alumni of Concordia University's journalism program.
