Mark has over 27 years' experience as a distressed investor, bankruptcy lawyer, litigator, restructuring advisor and professor. He has led hundreds of successful restructurings, workouts and distressed investments, and also has significant expertise in high-stakes litigation, investigations, credit analysis, litigation finance, corporate governance and investor activism. At Province, Mark focuses on trustee & fiduciary services (independent director, CRO, litigation trustee, special committees, examiner, etc.), restructuring, investigations, litigation services, and expert testimony. Mark has extensive experience in special situations investing across the cap structure (often with legal/process value drivers). He is responsible for billions in successful investments and has a stellar track record. Mark has led numerous official and ad hoc committees in corporate, municipal and sovereign restructurings across the world and led many successful litigation trusts. Mark is also an experienced investor in private credit, opportunistic credit, HY/leveraged credit, PE, structured products, etc. Most recently, Mark was BlackRock's Global Head of Restructuring and served on the Global Credit Oversight Committee. He was responsible for overseeing restructurings across the credit platform and related risk, litigation, and governance functions. As senior CIO team member, Mark managed special situations funds and various credit sleeves/mandates. Mark also led BlackRock’s credit training programs. Before BlackRock, he held senior/PM positions at BlueMountain Capital, Owl Creek Asset Mgmt and Aurelius Capital. Before his finance career, Mark was an accomplished bankruptcy attorney and litigator/trial lawyer. As a bankruptcy attorney, he advised debtors, creditors, boards and trustees in complex ch.11 cases. As a litigator, he handled a range of commercial litigation matters. Mark was also a prosecutor in NYC, where he handled felony cases involving fraud, organized crime and murder, achieving a 100% jury trial conviction rate. Mark is a highly regarded expert and frequent lecturer, panelist and author on distressed debt, restructuring, credit analysis, litigation, governance and credit markets. He is a professor at NYU Stern where he teaches Corporate Bankruptcy and a lecturer at Columbia Business School where he teaches Distressed Value Investing. Mark taught bankruptcy law at BUSL and guest lectured at Wharton, Duke, UVA & Oxford. Mark served on ABI’s Commission to Study the Reform of Ch.11. He earned his MBA from NYU Stern, JD from BUSL, and BA from SUNY Albany.
