Background
About Mark Kunitz
I am a resolute person with a passion for all things energy. There is a path forward to energy diversification that not only is sustainable, but also profitable. The Canadian Energy Industry has the opportunity to be the most diverse on the planet and effect change on a global scale. We have the ability to utilize our natural resources in what I think is the only responsible fashion; simultaneously grow our own energy industry and implement diverse sources of energy while lowering global emissions in a meaningful way. Why rely on one or two energy sources? Why not use natural gas, wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, tidal, or nuclear energy to our advantage? In doing so, we could export our natural gas to displace coal-fired electricity in countries that need our help to transition and lower their emissions. We as a country can do it all. This is my goal. I developed my passion for energy and resources mainly through work. I am currently a Production EIT-Exploitation for Tourmaline Oil Corp. in our NEBC Montney assets. Prior to taking this position, I worked as an operator for both Saguaro Resources and Tourmaline. My time in the field was focused mainly on well optimization, operations, and gas processing. All of which are the foundations that I rely on in my career today. I attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) for Petroleum Engineering Technology, which ultimately led me to pursue my BSc. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming. From this education, I learned how to approach problems and solve them efficiently, how to learn and adapt quickly, and to manage workloads individually as well as in a team. I recently enrolled and am starting my Master of Earth and Energy Resources Leadership (MEERL) through Queen's University. I joined the program to broaden and diversify my base of knowledge across the energy industry. By taking the MEERL program, I plan to further develop my soft skills as well as expose myself to varying points of view on our ever-changing industry. Diversifying my energy knowledge, will allow me to better learn from and cooperate with professionals at all levels. My plan is to continue my journey to becoming a leader in the energy industry.
