About Mark MacLean

I am the owner and primary legal consultant at Straight Line Legal (SLL). SLL was formed in April 2023 following a decade working as a commercial solicitor in private practice at various top 50 UK law firms. The ethos behind SLL is very simple: I want to offer SMEs an affordable and straightforward way to get legal support. As my clients tell me again and again, I have a knack for untangling complex legal issues and creating practical and understandable strategies. In my time as a commercial solicitor in private practice I dealt with a really diverse caseload of contentious (e.g. court litigation) and non-contentious work, from drafting and analysing contracts, through to advising on large scale commercial disputes. I worked with many UK insurers, handling their cases in the Property, Energy, and Construction sector, and I was on a team appointed by a major supermarket chain to exclusively handle their property disputes. Through my work with SLL I have the pleasure of working, and forging strong relationships, with businesses across lots of different sectors - from Harbour Masters to Interior Designers. I help businesses with all sorts of legal issues including drafting customer Ts and Cs, supporting with GDPR compliance, advising on IP issues, and resolving a whole host of commercial disputes. In my spare time I am usually stuck into something music-related, whether it is playing, composing, recording, or sometimes just listening. I love spending time with the family (including my whirlwind of a toddler, Marnie!) and usually exploring something or somewhere new if we can. I also have a (perhaps unhealthy) obsession with all things fantasy and sci-fi!
