About Mark Mahoney

I am a dedicated computer science professor with a passion for teaching and innovation. I am also the founder of the Playback Press (https://playbackpress.com/books). I developed the medium of 'code playbacks'(https://markm208.github.io) after years of teaching with traditional media. Code playbacks are an interactive medium for guiding others through code examples. These playbacks have become central to my teaching, replacing traditional textbooks and live demos in my classes. I’ve authored extensive collections on a variety of programming languages and technologies, including C/C++, Clojure, Elixir, Python, Web Dev, SQL, OOP and more.At Carthage College, I teach a full range of courses, my favorites are Data Structures, Software Engineering, Database Management, Computing Paradigms, and OOP. My teaching philosophy centers around challenging students to think critically and creatively, equipping them with the skills needed for real-world success.I have written design patterns that explore state based systems and I am interested in how crosscutting concerns affect system development. My PhD research was in the area of Aspect-Oriented Software Development.Specialties: Software engineering, software design, OO design patterns, state based systems, aspect-oriented software development, CS education.#edtech #devtools #csed
