About Mark McDermott

Apart from a few breaks i have persevered in this exciting industry for 33 years. Originally trained as a Locksmith, because of my building and electrical experience i was soon encouraged to start installing and repairing alarm systems. This was in Sydney and in 1988. After Vaucluse Security folded i worked for other eastern suburbs companies such as Comprehensive Security, Associated Security and Shomrim Security, eventually forming my own business as 'GET SMART SECURITY' and relocated to the NSW Central Coast, after operating my business for about 8 years I wound it up in 98 and travelled to Queensland. About 8 years in the Toowoomba area predominately working for Pride Security doing mainly government sites and Police Stations, schools & courts, this involved regular country 'runs' which I largely enjoyed. Moved to the Sunshine Coast, worked for Pride again and Ruswin out of Rockhampton, AFN out of Brisbane, Crimetech out of Brisbane (all contracting). Worked in 2016/17 for Advanced Security out of Hamilton NZ as a full time Service Technician, whilst there I had good exposure to Milestone and Gallagher (Cardax) products and still possess a non current Gallagher certification to compliment my Tecom and Concept certifications as well as Inner Ranges new products 'Integriti' and 'Inception', also quite familiar with ICT's Protege'. I did about 1.5 years in Mt. Isa working with Fredon (now Securitas) on Glencore’s mine site and surrounding mines, this was a great experience on several levels. I am currently working and living in Fraser Coast region including Bundaberg, Maryborough, Hervey Bay as well as country areas as required.
