About Mark Murphy

For many years I have worked with children, beginning with a great organization called Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, then assistant youth minister. On a volunteer basis, sInce 2003 I have facilitated parenting workshops - a significant portion involving the popular and effective Parenting With Dignity program developed by Mac and Barbara Bledsoe. Since 2012 I have also provided one-on-one parenting consultation, many mandated by family court. In 2013 I took a 2-year leave of absence from my government research lab in order to complete an M.S. in Child & Adolescent Development and complete a parenting book - both undertaken in order to better help parents obtain the tools needed to bring out the full potential in their kids and experience a happy home. I currently volunteer for a non-profit that houses young mothers in recovery from addiction, as a Board member for youth mentoring non-profit, and as an advocate for children who are dependencies of the state. About 2011, with the help of Mac Bledsoe, Bob and Denise Morris, Mike Patterson, Terry Buechler, and my wife Kalleen, I founded Mid-Columbia Parenting, a non-profit focused on educating parents and the community on building (and repairing) kids and strong parent-child relationships. My goal is to eventually build an Institute for Child & Family Development in the Tri-Cities, in order to aggressively pursue solutions for issues involving parent-child conflict and child social/behavioral issues.
