About Mark Murphy

I am currently the Senior Policy Manager with the Irish Heart Foundation, a leading Irish charity that has been the chief protector of the nation’s cardiovascular health for more than 50 years. Through our work in advocacy, education, research, health promotion, lifesaving skills training, patient support and campaigning for better policies and services, we have saved the lives and improved the quality of life of untold numbers of people in every corner of Ireland. As part of my role, my responsibilities cover a range of topics such as developing and implementing public health campaigns, engaging with key governmental stakeholders. organising high-level launches, conferences and seminars, stakeholder management and devising creative content to drive IHF campaigns. Before assuming my current role, I was previously the Policy and Research Analyst with Vulcan Consulting, a leading government relations firm. In that role, my tasks included policy analysis, research, preparing policy briefs, political and regulatory monitoring, political risk monitoring & analysis, event organization, stakeholder engagement and managing and implementing the company’s communication strategy Particular public policy areas include health policy, food and drinks, agriculture, and finance. My interests are International developments, Irish and EU current affairs, global politics, sport, and reading. In 2016 I completed my Masters from University College Cork, achieving a first class honours in International Public Policy and Diplomacy MSc. The modules that I studied in this masters included Contemporary Global Policy Challenges, European Security, EU Political System and Policies, Introduction to European Law, Global Economic Policies and Institutions, Contemporary Issues in International Law, Foreign Policy and Diplomacy: Case Studies in Crises and Decision-making, and finally Leadership Dynamics.
