I currently work in G.S stothers as an electrical and mechanical engineer. I currently responsible for training an apprentice on site at all times as well as installation test and inspection, in the commercial domestic and industrial sector of smoke and fire ventilation. The work involves inspection,testing fault finding of control panels and their mechanical counter parts. It also entails maintaining large ventilation systems, This has furthered my understanding with Electromechanical systems & has improved my control wiring skills for control panels. Working on my own to meet cost & schedule deadlines keeps me motivated as well as challenging me to constantly better my understanding of new systems. Other control panel experience is with apartment supply switchboards for split lighting and power boards. This involves sitework for panel installation, commission & repair plus control panel upgrades of meters, power modules, mech items etc. In addition to panel work I also perform small scale repair & test of electronics boards/modules for split lighting/ power control & monitor/ cut-out. This requires the completion of test certificates for sub-system verification & overall system validation. I also carry out commissioning of large smoke vent systems I have to ensure that the pressurised sections of the system meets the requirements, these sections include stairwells and hallways etc… as if the pressure exceeds a certain limit the system will work counterintuitively and trap people inside, this testing requires immense accuracy and understanding of the systems operation.
