He was also appointed as a DHS-FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer in 2008, serving as the representative of the President of the United States and the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA during major Presidential disasters and emergency declarations. He has coordinated federal, state, and local assets and resources to support the Governor and emergency managers in various states and territories, including California, New York, Puerto Rico, and the Navajo Nation. Mark is also a TV news commentator for FOX, NBC, ABC, and CNN, providing background understanding to viewers about events transpiring in the world, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, mass shootings, gas explosions, wildfires, and hurricanes. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and insights with the public and the media.
