About Mark Obrien

Dr Mark O’Brien is an Associate Fellow and the Programme Director of the Oxford Healthcare Leadership Programme at the Said Business School at Oxford University. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Queensland, a Non-Executive Director of St John of God Healthcare Australia and an Advisory Board member of Dietician Connection. Previous roles include the Medical Director and co-founder of the Cognitive Institute and International Program Lead for Risk Prevention and International Program Director, Educational Services, for the Medical Protection Society. He originally commenced his professional life as rural proceduralist Family Physician in rural Australia. Dr O’Brien is a regular national and international speaker on quality and safety, open disclosure, interpersonal skills and leading clinical teams. His expertise and passion have seen him provide expert advice and training to Hospital Boards, Healthcare Executives and Clinical Leaders, in Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South East Asia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa. An estimated healthcare professionals in thirteen countries have undertaken courses developed by him in topics as diverse as leadership, culture change, communication skills and professionalism. Dr O'Brien has established a reputation as an international expert that healthcare organisations seek out when planning and implementing cultural and performance improvements in their workforce. Programmes developed by him are delivered in some of the most prestigious teaching hospitals in Australia, Asia and the United Kingdom. He is a published author and passionate advocate for quality and safety in Healthcare.
