2002-current: Extensively involved in systems development in the Pietermaritzburg Metropolitan Hospitals Complex, and its geographical drainage area. Components include: strengthening the paediatric service; clinical guidelines; record keeping templates and systems; mortality audit; clinical audit; record audit; unit management processes; regional outreach, and especially the development of a structured outreach programme; undergraduate and postgraduate teaching platform development.2005-current: Set up and managed a generalist-run paediatric cardiology service, including echocardiography, with outreach to regional hospitals2010-current: Contributed to undergraduate (medical student) introduction to Pietermaritzburg, particularly in the area of ‘Scientific writing’ skill development, and in curriculum development.2010-current:Research leader for the MMed programme including research methodology skill development, protocol writing, and dissertation/manuscript write-ups. Founder-convener of the Paediatrics Research Support Group to develop and strengthen research capacity in the Pietermaritzburg Department of Paediatrics (2023).2013 et seq:A regular co-convener, then convener of the CMSA Diploma in Child Health; compiled a resource package for running the DCH examinations. This has been used country-wide.2008 et seq:Implemented and managed Afritox in Pietermaritzburg Hospitals and elsewhere in KZN.2004 et seq:Conceived and produced the Child Health Resource Package, a CD based pack consisting of clinical guidelines, record keeping templates, and systems and audit tools.2004 et seq:Co-conceived, developed and produced the Child Healthcare Problem Identification Programme, currently endorsed by the National Department of Health and implemented as the mortality audit tool countrywide; current custodian of the national database (which contains over 80 audited in-hospital deaths). Clinical and technical advisor for major software upgrade (released 2023).
