About Mark Paul

I was sparked by a computer at a young age. My childhood fascination with computers began when I was given a chance to use my dad’s 1988 Commodore PC10 computer. From that moment on, my interest had been sparked; I was hooked on learning more about what was happening on the inside of the computer. This led me to take computer engineering, which momentarily satisfied my hunt. All of this came to an abrupt end during my networking course when I found my desire to learn the principles of security and networking rather than building prototype boards. All of this started to become more apparent during the time in which I was playing on a game server that my friend and I had acquired through a third-party. After the initial creation of the game world, the server had zero issues. As we played more, however, it became obvious that the server couldn't keep up. We were stuck in a state of flapping: continuously disconnecting from and reconnecting to the server. Frustrated with the poor service, I decided to research how to create and maintain my own gaming server. The more time I spend with the game server, the further I deepen my knowledge. I have been able to practice various tasks related to server management, the upkeep of individual server instances, and the underlying importance of security. Over time, my interest in perfecting these server management skills became insatiable. By the time I got my first professional job, my interest in the IT world had solidified. My work experience has given me the opportunity to troubleshoot a large variety of technical issues involving SQL, HTML, and proprietary softwares. I’ve learned how to manage my time when given a heavy workload and how to effectively communicate with internal team members and external customers. With my exceptional performance in my current role at Phreesia, I was also given the opportunity to shadow Security and DevOps engineers within my company. Even now, in my free time, I continue to learn more through KodeKloud about a wide range of DevOps-related subjects such as containerization, orchestration, version management, and much more.
