About Mark Paulk

Mark Paulk teaches software engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. His personal webpage is https://personal.utdallas.edu/~mcp130030/. He is a consultant and author in software engineering. His research interests center on high maturity practices, statistical thinking, empirical software engineering, and agile methods. From 2009 to 2012 Mark was a Senior Systems Scientist in the Institute for Software Research at Carnegie Mellon University. From 2002 to 2009 Mark worked in the IT Services Qualification Center at Carnegie Mellon, identifying best practices for providers and clients of IT-enabled services. He is a co-author of the eSourcing Capability Model for Service Providers (eSCM-SP). From 1987 to 2002, Mark was with the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon. He was the project leader during the development of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) for Software. He is best known for his work with the Software CMM and for software-related process work involving high maturity organizations. He is the lead author for The Capability Maturity Model: Guidelines for Improving the Software Process. Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon, Mark was a Senior Systems Analyst for System Development Corporation (SDC) at the Ballistic Missile Defense Advanced Research Center in Huntsville, Alabama. While at SDC, he worked on distributed, hard real-time systems. Mark received his PhD in industrial engineering from the University of Pittsburgh; his master's degree in computer science from Vanderbilt University; and his bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
