Background
About Mark Piper
In 2015, I retired from Policing having completed 30 years as an Officer which included 22 of these as a Supervisor, then Manager. My varied career has run through standard patrol work, to Communications, Major Incident training, Licencing and in the last few years as a promotions Assessor, then Police Trainer for Critical Incidents, and all aspects of first and second line management. I have worked both individually, or have led teams to achieve high levels of performance, often in extreme confrontational environments, but also in the quieter environment of a classroom. Within this role, I was required to set up training conferences from the buying-in of Trainers, organising venues and dates, then the negotiation with all ranks as attendees. Since retirement I have returned to Sussex Police, becoming a Trainer at Gatwick Airport, with specialisation in Airside driving as an Instructor, and have become the Aviation legislation "guru" for the police. My project to upgrade the Training Office systems and practices now has to be completed with communication skills, tact and persuasion, as I no longer hold a supervisory rank. I find people fascinating, and would not enjoy a future role which does not include people contact. Customer Service is a very strong Ethos in me. From April 2020, I have been seconded to the Sussex Resilience Forum, and have been the lead for the Logistics and Supply Cell, This work entailed the management of the Emergency PPE from Government to Local Authorities, and I was also became the Point of Contact for Mobile Testing for the SRF. From 2023 I have returned to my role as force lead for Initial Inspectors’ Training with specialism in National Decision Model and all Police Powers. 2024 - JESIP Trainer qualified and FREC 3.
