Background
About Mark Poesch
I am a fisheries researcher and passionate about all things freshwater! I have a diverse background and vast array of experience in fisheries/aquatic science. I have worked on projects such as: understanding impacts of land-use (e.g. urbanization, mining) on aquatic organisms, developing predictive models for identifying species habitats, quantifying geomorphologic changes in stream form, and developing quantitative tools for improved decision making. The organisms I use for each project tend to relate to the issues I am working on, but I have over ten years experience working on several different aquatic taxa including fish (> 30 species), mussels (>20 species), benthic invertebrates and zooplankton. I have an extensive expertise in leading scientific research, writing peer-reviewed scientific papers, and giving invited and contributed presentations at regional, national and international conferences. In addition, my research on endangered and invasive species has been highlighted in national and international media, from San Francisco to Thailand. In 2010, I was honored that my research was chosen by the University of Toronto, to be highlighted to all students and faculty in their 2010 Year in Review. I have an extensive background working on statistical models, including univariate, multivariate and predictive methods. I enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders from government, academia, non-governmental organizations, industry and the public. I am always looking for new opportunities, so feel free to visit my personal website or drop me a correspondence if you have any questions. Personal Website: Specialties: • Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences • Species at Risk of extinction (i.e. endangered species) • Biostatistics • Ecological Modelling • Community & Population Ecology • Stream Hydrology & Geomorphology • Ecology, Ethology & Evolutionary Biology
