I am a Lead Trading Underwriter in the London Mid Corporate / Nationals team; a 'major account' underwriter (Casualty & Property) with premiums typically in the range of £100k to £2million+. In summary, these key elements describe my role and what I do- Underwrite complex risks, both UK domiciled and Mini Global, using my years of experience and technical expertise. I am a Casualty specialist by trade and the senior 'underwriting licence' holder in the London trading office for this class; but I am also well versed in the arts of Property underwriting. I look at new opportunities, and manage existing major clients - in equal proportion- Lead people. I manage, coach and mentor people in my team and the wider business. We win and lose as a team, and I want to help everyone in it perform to their maximum potential- Work with customers and their brokers. My clients don't just expect an insurance transaction, but a partner. It is my job to bring the right team of specialists to support any given customer, to add value, collaborate, create workable solutions and ensure our engagement meets the needs of the customer- Seek new business opportunities and build relationships with brokers - including long-term pipeline creation- Manage account performance in London; develop, refine and communicate out underwriting strategies and monitor/oversea their implementation. I have an eye on the 'bigger picture' and understand how local account performance impacts the national business result- Create and deliver training on technical subjects - both internally and externally; participate in Thought Leadership and keep abreast of Emerging Risks- Change leadership and project participation; We can always do things better, create more compelling solutions, be more efficient or simply need to keep pace with change. I have been at the heart of too many projects to list here, but they cover 'underwriting strategy','product development','proposition development/enhancement' and 'systems development' to name a few.
