About Mark Prescott

I am currently working as speechwriter to European Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, senior expert in strategic communication and clear writing advocate, based at the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety. My daily work involves drafting high-level speeches, policy documents and briefing material for top management on EU health and food safety policies. Explaining the often complex and sensitive policy issues we deal with in clear language that resonates with a range of audiences is a challenging yet rewarding task. It is also a team effort - which is why I offer clear writing training to colleagues. At a time where clear, factual communication is more important than ever, we must work harder than ever to get our message across to people and show them that the European Union has their interests at heart. I am an experienced storyteller, editor, press officer and translator. In my 25 years working for the European Union I have amassed a great deal of experience in drafting and editing a wealth of material, including speeches, policy documents, articles, press releases and website content for a number of Commissioners, Directorates-General and the general public. I have contributed to strategic and day-to-day communication activities, and have regularly proofread and edited texts written for a wide variety of audiences on a broad range of subjects.
