Background
About Mark Ratcliffe
Mark Ratcliffe is Head of Estates for the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, and responsible for the historic property within the Trust’s care, as well as an extensive portfolio of investment properties and land, the income from which further supports the wider work of the Trust. He has considerable experience in maintaining the general operation of a range of listed and specialist buildings, including planned capital repair and refurbishment projects, as well as major redevelopment and conservation programmes. As a Trustee for the Historic Coventry Trust, he brings his experience in re-purposing and redeveloping, sometimes tired or failing historic structures, to provide a sustainable future for these buildings, whilst also maintaining their historic and cultural integrity. In addition to many year’s operational leadership and management experience in the consistent and sustainable performance of arts venues in a number of locations, he also has significant project management experience in arts and events related activity. This includes the client project, and logistical start-up management of a 6 year £22M transformational refurbishment and remodelling programme to provide a new Cultural Centre on Merseyside involving a wide range of partnerships. He is a Director of Eventuality Initiatives Ltd, providing support for wide range of cultural buildings, and event related activity, with significant experience in the planning, logistics and operational management of major national and international live events, including rock concerts, air-shows, world record attempts, national pyrotechnics competitions and battlefield re-enactments. He is also well versed in the assessment and specification of integrated ICT systems for event and venue services control and monitoring, with a proven track record designing and implementing innovative energy saving initiatives and other measures, to significantly improve environmental sustainability.
