About Mark Rawlek

Throughout a lifetime in education driven by a commitment to learning for all whatever it takes, I have been a consistent advocate for providing students the skill set needed to become lifelong learners in the world. Led by the guiding principles of “What’s best for learners?” and “Doing what is right” coupled with a personal emphasis on relationship development and shared vision has allowed me to: • See the big picture for Education in Alberta • Understand the current realities of leadership at the student, parent, teacher, school administrator, community and provincial levels • Develop understanding of the intricacies of education in urban and rural school districts and how they relate to the global provincial perspectives through membership on the Board of Directors for the College of Alberta School Superintendents • Build capacity with an ‘educational opportunity’ approach with various publics, enabling the development of understanding, appropriate risk-taking and participation in collaborative decision making • Maintain an ethical approach to leadership and integrity-based decision making • Sustain a proven track record as a positive change agent at the elementary, junior high, high school and district level.
