About Mark Redman

Independent rural development consultant based in Zărneşti (Brasov), Romania with: • Approaching 40 years(!) of experience in research, consultancy, teaching and training activities in environmental policy-making, agriculture and rural development • 30 years of experience of living and working in central and eastern European on a diverse range of food, agriculture and rural development-related projects (governmental, non-governmental and academic) • Over 25 years of hands-on experience with technical assistance to the development of agri-environment policies, agricultural pollution control schemes, rural development plans, integrated territorial development strategies, rural networks and environmental legislation in EU candidate/accession countries and others - notably Armenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, northern Cyprus, Estonia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine • 15 years (2010-2025) of specific experience in rural networking, including working for the European Network for Rural Development, the EIP-AGRI Network and many national rural networks • Almost 10 years of experience as a non-academic SME partner in EU research and innovation projects (see below) • Highly developed skills in project identification, development, planning/inception, management and evaluation - including the preparation of successful project tenders/proposals for funding by the EU Horizon research and innovation programme, Europeaid, INTERREG, World Bank and Dutch MATRA bilateral assistance • Proven ability to work with and manage teams of local and international experts, including Team Leader on major international projects • Widely acknowledged as an experienced and skilled facilitator and trainer • Highly developed technical writing skills, including experience as Editor of the UK journal for organic food production,"New Farmer and Grower" and co-author of "Agricultural Pollution: Problems & Practical Solutions" • Experience of regular participation in the AKIS Strategic Working of the DG AGRI Standing Committee on Agricultural Research (SCAR-AKIS), the CAP Network Sub-group on Innovation and Knowledge Exchange (SoIKE) and the high level CAP Network Steering Group.
