About Mark Reid

Mark Reid is a leader in arts education, learning technology, and education policy. He is currently the Creative Director of Carpe Ictus Music, Google for Education Certified Trainer, and supports Career Education programming in the Vancouver School Board. He is formerly an Education Officer at the British Columbia Ministry of Education, responsible for coordinating Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies curriculum and leading the development of a Music Education Strategy for the province and has been an educational technology consultant for SET-BC. He is the former Director of Bands & Choirs at Vancouver Technical Secondary School, 2013 MusiCounts Teacher of the Year, and a Finalist for the 2015 Global Teacher Prize. Mark holds degrees from VanderCook College of Music (MMEd) and the University of Victoria (BMus). A career volunteer, he serves as Past-President of the Canadian Music Educators’ Association, Secretary of the Coalition for Music Education in Canada, and as a member of Phi Beta Mu and the Program Advisory Council for music at Vancouver Community College. Mark is a charter member of the Varkey Teacher Ambassadors. He has lectured and spoken at the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria, Brandon University, UCLA and teaches a graduate course on relational pedagogy in music education. He is published by Tempo Press and Grand Mesa Music, and has been an invited presenter the Disney Performing Arts Educators Summit: Inspiring Brilliance.
