About Mark Robertson

I am an environmental specialist with 25+ years’ experience in environmental management and project approvals across a range of Australian jurisdictions and business sectors, including significant experience in large scale mining and petroleum projects. I am experienced in practical environmental management, sustainability, environmental impact assessment, environmental closure, policy development, legislation, compliance and facilitating regulatory approvals for company activities. Strong relationships with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders are cornerstones of my approach. After leaving a biology degree at university I worked in a range of positions in the mining industry, my university experience allowed me to view the activities of the industry through the lens of life sciences. Later, when I moved into the environmental field, I had practical experience of the construction and operations which allowed me to consider the implications of environmental management from a pragmatic perspective. This experience and pragmatism are well suited to providing advice on practical environmental management and environmental impact assessment. Since I have been employed in corporate/management roles where I have gained significant experience in the external affairs, policy legislation and industry representation. I’ve been with INPEX for over 18 years and was closely involved in the Ichthys Development, where I developed the Government Approvals function. I was the interface with all key Regulatory Departments (Cwlth/NT/WA) and managed all major approvals processes for the ($40 Billion+) Ichthys Development, one of Australia’s largest ever and most complex projects. In 2020, I joined the New Energy Business at INPEX as part of the team building a portfolio of renewable, carbon offset and new energy projects in Australia. Having worked in the pit, the lab, in mills and in boardrooms… I have been on various sides of the projects I advise on, bringing an on-the-ground understanding of the practicalities of working on an operation, and the implications of business decisions. Coming from a farming family, I also have an appreciation of the needs of regional stakeholders. I would like to consider assisting Not For Profit Organisations in a board level capacity. I offer extensive experience in Environmental Management, Regulatory Approvals, Corporate Affairs and sustainability. I also have a strong background in Regulatory Compliance.
