About Mark Ruse
A producer for 30 years, Mark has produced over 280 hours of prime time television comedy and drama, over 300 hours of live television and more than 20 documentaries. Mark was recently Executive Producer on a 16 episode drama series for the BBC produced in Bangladesh. Mark Ruse is one of the Producers of the first two series of acclaimed comedy Kath and Kim. It has won three AFI awards including “Best Television Series”. Mark was co-Executive Producer of the comedy hit series The Games which won a Logie for “Best Comedy” as well as an AFI award for “Best Screenplay”. In 2002 Mark received the Screen Producers Associations “Independent Producer of the Year” award, voted by his peers. Mark was the producer of 70 episodes of the highly successful one hour comedy series Fast Forward and worked on numerous other productions for GRANADA INTERNATIONAL including Full Frontal and Tonight Live. Mark is co-owner of production company Ruby Entertainment which has recently wrapped production of the third Series of the acclaimed mini-series. “Bed of Roses” for the ABC. In development is the film adaptation of Kate Grenville’s Booker Prize short listed novel, “The Secret River” which is being penned by Oscar nominated screenwriter, Jan Sardi. Internationally proclaimed director, Fred Schepisi is directing. Other recent productions include, comedy feature film The Extra written by and starring Jimeoin which was released locally by Hoyts. Ruby also produced the critically acclaimed telemovies, The Murray Whelan Series - ‘Stiff’ and ‘The Brush Off’ - screened on the Seven Network. Adapted from novels by Shane Maloney, John Clarke’s screenplays star David Wenham, Mick Molloy, Steve Bisley and Justine Clarke and were directed by John Clarke and Sam Neill. Ruby has been behind productions that have won 15 AFI, Logies and independent awards.
