About Mark Saunders

During my career across the general practice of law, consulting, mediation and board roles, I have advised and advocated for a broad cross-section of people, organisations and businesses. I bring with me a wide range of legal and commercial skills and experience. These strengths are complimented by excellent written and oral communication skills, and an ability to establish, build and enhance multi-level relationships both internally and externally. Through these roles I have developed practical knowledge, skills and insight in areas of strategic planning, reviewing policy systems and processes, governance and management issues and regulatory compliance. I have a sound understanding of the dynamics of organisational change, risk management and performance. I have applied these skills, knowledge and experience in the resolution of customer complaints, issues, escalating problems and disputes arising from Insurance claims in relation to the Canterbury EQ events and disputes and conflict arising from the ‘Blue Chip Finance’ collapse. I have a particular knowledge and expertise in how organisations identify, address and resolve conflict and complaints and designing systems and processes to respond to those issues. I have board membership and leadership experience in various sports, tertiary education, health and government regulatory organisations. As a trained, and experienced coach, manager and motivator of both athletes and other coaches my communication and listening skills enhance my ability to work with others to set targets and establish pathways for achieving them. I have successfully transported these skills into the commercial environment.
