About Mark Seip

I currently serve as Senior Advisor to the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and am an adjunct senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). I am a recognized organizational leader, accomplished strategic thinker and writer, and a communications expert. A retired military officer, my 24+ years of Navy service included designation as a Naval Strategist and by-name-request to serve in OSD's prestigious Office of Net Assessment, providing advice to the Secretary of Defense on future warfare trends. I served as a Federal Executive Fellow to the Atlantic Council with a focus on Nordic-Baltic security and public diplomacy and was on the Joint Chiefs of Staff as the principal manager for political-military matters related to NATO's mission in Afghanistan and to the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Ireland. I led at all levels of an operational squadron, including command of 150 men and women and ownership of four E-2C Hawkeye aircraft valued at $400 million. I previously taught at Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. I hold a master's degree in public relations and corporate communications from Georgetown and am a graduate of MIT's Seminar XXI national security program.
