About Mark Sherman

After having been a professor of clinical psychology for almost three decades, Mark Sherman, Ph.D. retired from academia because of an ever-increasing involvement in commercial and fine art. Mark now works exclusively with transparent watercolor. The prime subjects of his paintings are typically highly realistic and tightly rendered within an atmospheric, aquatic or terrestrial context that is more dramatic and free flowing. He is recognized for his depictions of local landscapes, wildlife, and his series of over 100 paintings of lighthouses, including the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which earned the “Graphic Print of the Year” award from the National Association of Limited Edition Dealers. Mark has won numerous “First Prize,” “Best of Show,” and “People’s Choice” awards for his watercolors at juried competitions. Many of Mark’s more recent paintings depict the land and people he encounters while traveling abroad. Mark accepts commissions and, as a specialty, will produce a life-like portrait, or a “petrait” of your furry, finny, or feathered friend. If the subject is in the San Diego area, he will go to location and take reference photos upon which your custom painting will be based.
