About Mark Slater

I began my foodservice career as a trainee manager with The Protea Hotel Group in Southern Africa. Once completed, I received my call up papers to the South African Defence Force and served my 2 year mandatory term. After basic training, I found myself back in the kitchen as a corporal in charge of the "Mess Halls" at our base in Bloemfontein, South Africa. May 1990 saw the completion of my National Service and I joined Compass Group, Southern Africa. I started as a unit Manager and worked my way through different branches of the business including Hospitals; Schools; Universities; Mines and Business Dining. Compass then moved towards sectorization and I focused on Operations in the Business Dining sector. In December 2003, I transferred to the United States where I took on a unit manager role at Microsoft and soon promoted to General Manager at Phillips Medical Systems in Bothell, WA. Compass then started housing local brands and I took this on as a project manager for 2 years before settling back into operations at the Boeing account in Washington State. In April 2015, a new and exciting opportunity arose as a District Manager with A'viands (now Aladdin Campus Dining), where I am to date.
