About Mark Staiger
I am currently an Associate Professor in Materials Science and Engineering within the Department of Mechanical Engineering University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. I am teaching to undergraduate mechanical and chemical engineering students at all levels in the broad area of materials engineering (metals, polymers, composites and ceramics). I supervise 3 distinctly different research groups in the areas of (i) magnesium-based biodegradable metallic biomaterials for bone tissue engineering applications,(ii) electrospinning of polymeric nanofibres and development of novel all-cellulose biocomposites. My current postgraduate supervision involves 10 Doctoral students. I have also attracted total research and student funding of NZD$3M and NZD$330K, respectively, since 2002. I have a strong interest in the processing, characterisation and design of materials aimed at biomaterials applications.
