About Mark Stewart

I take a principal role in the evaluation, design, development, and rollout of interactive digital media authoring and content delivery technologies and practices at The Centre for Extended Learning (CEL), understanding departmental priorities and providing appropriate input and best practice recommendations to CEL senior management, to help guide the continuous improvement and evolution of CEL’s course development practices. Some key points from my current job description:* Lead the exploration, evaluation and implementation of new and emerging interactive digital media development technologies/practices;* Establish best practice guidelines regarding interaction design;* Core contributor in the development of CEL production standards and procedures;* Key resource to the senior management team by bringing forward status updates, issues and recommendations to ensure senior management have all the information required to make strategic decisions, and ensure that we capitalize on potential new development technologies and practices;* Provide technical and creative leadership for the adoption of new content authoring platforms, systems, procedures and standards; develop and maintain development frameworks, templates, pattern libraries and procedures; help build team capabilities;* Devise frameworks, templates and procedures to support adoption by non-technical groups, and online course authors/instructors across the university, providing rollout planning, guidance, and training the trainers;* Develop and deploy pilot solutions using emerging development technologies/methods in specific UW online courses/modules, providing documented exemplars of their implementation and opportunities for continued evaluation;* Interpret related industry trends and technologies – including those addressing web accessibility (AODA) and user experience – and contribute to establishing appropriate design and development strategies;* Encourage and model standard-based development practices; periodically reviews course development project proposals and prototypes to ensure that their execution is aligned with technical and creative standards;* Collaborate with managers/staff as needed (e.g, Learning Design Manager, Course Production Group Managers, Online Learning Project Managers, OLCs, Technical Support etc.)* Collaborate with vendors and software providers to support adoption, system integration and rollout;* Contribute to the dissemination of production practices to groups within the University and beyond.
