Background

About Mark Syp

Communications specialist, writer, editor, and storyteller with over twenty years of experience. • Superpower is taking complex information and developing ways to present it in a manner that is easily understandable, tailored to each individual audience, and presented in a way that not only informs, but also entertains and excites. • Earned Master’s in Communication from American University, with a specialization in multimedia journalism. Also earned a Bachelor’s in English from Princeton University, where I participated in the Princeton University Program in Creative Writing, working with authors including Joyce Carol Oates and receiving the Outstanding First Year Student award. • Spent the last several years doing communications and writing/editing work for College Board (creators of the SAT, AP, and other tests), where I provided end-to-end leadership in the creation of content that conveyed complex information about our tests in a manner that was easily understandable for each intended audience, while adhering to our brand guidelines. This was a cross-functional effort that required a strong attention to detail and involved collaboration in a matrix environment with a diverse group of subject matter experts across several different divisions and at all levels, including executive leadership • Told stories for a variety of multimedia outlets, each of which served to advertise the event or product being featured. At Sirius XM Book Radio, I interviewed authors on-air about their latest books. I also worked for the Times of Trenton, where I did a number of multimedia feature stories, many of which can be found at All of this work had to be tailored to very different audiences and adhere to each outlet’s unique style and voice, with the common thread of not only informing the audience, but also getting them excited enough to want to attend the event.
