Background
About Mark Temons
York Fresh Food Farms is a nonprofit farm in the City of York, PA, that grows, harvests, and sells fresh produce at year-round markets throughout the City, helping to end food insecurity in York through access to affordable, healthy food and sustainable urban agriculture. Y3F has thirteen regularly-scheduled weekly Mobile Produce Market locations, operating markets 5 days-a-week throughout the summer and autumn months. These locations are targeted to locations that lack access to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables, and in 2024, 43 percent of Mobile Produce Market sales were made through EBT/SNAP, FNMP checks, or Food Bucks. York Fresh Food Farms also operates a year-round stand at Central Market, growing food throughout winter in four high tunnels (large greenhouses) on their two sites in the city that total 4 1/2 acres cultivated. Since 2023, York Fresh Food Farms has been operating three additional high tunnels for UPMC Memorial hospital, as part of UPMC's Farm-to-Hospital program, allowing Y3F to expand their mission of cultivating community health through access, affordability, and agriculture. Mark joined the farm in January 2025 as Executive Director, following a career as a licensed Home Improvement Contractor in Pennsylvania. A carpenter who had trained with a premier green construction company, building custom homes on California's Central Coast, Mark returned home to Pennsylvania in 2012 and founded Temons & Co. Builders in 2013, designing and building custom renovations often focusing on historic restoration and energy-efficiency. In 2017, Mark began working with nonprofit organizations on projects to make homes more accessible for people with mobility concerns. In 2019, he began working full-time in nonprofit construction design and preconstruction management. designing projects to keep people across the state living in their homes through retirement or disability. Over the next four years, Mark personally designed over 600 publicly-funded custom projects that kept nearly people living in their homes and saved PA taxpayers over 100 million dollars. Mark is a public policy expert and a longtime community advocate and organizer who has been active in state and local elections. Since 2023, Mark has served as a policy advisor and an outreach coordinator for BGL, a workforce development firm founded in 2017 by his wife, Kristal Markle-Temons.
