About Mark Thompson

I have always had a passion for growing things and the natural world. I expect this can be traced back to time spent with my grandparents in their gardens as a small child and to increased involvement with my family’s farm as I grew up, eventually taking over operation of the farm when I finished high school. I spent several years there before going back to school and getting a BS in Microbiology with a Chemistry minor. I bring the strong work ethic, time management and planning skills and mechanical abilities developed growing up working on the family farm to everything I do. That and my attention to detail and logical approach to problem solving have served me well. I have spent the bulk of my post college work career in the Ag Biotechnology arena in a variety of roles in laboratory, greenhouse and field settings. I have extensive experience managing seed inventories in a progression of proprietary databases. Additionally, I have several years of experience managing physical storage and shipment of regulated seed in accordance with USDA and other Regulatory Agency policies. In my last role at Monsanto, i was responsible for coordinating production, conditioning and storage of corn, soybean and cotton seed used in Monsanto's plant transformation pipeline. I am currently the Greenhouse and Seed Manager at the Wisconsin Crop Innovation Center at UW Madison.
