About Mark Tinker

I am CEO for Quantum Technology Sciences, a geophysical solutions company with which I have spent my entire professional career. While 20+ year careers are becoming less common, I’ve had the good fortune to enjoy a diversity of experiences. My Ph.D. and career have centered on operational exotic source seismology- Seismology - understanding acoustic energy in the earth - Exotic source - everything that isn’t an earthquake, from nuclear bombs to footsteps - Operational - delivering a result that is correct, in real-time, and usually of some near-term social relevance. Early in my career I lead a mission-critical U.S. Air Force program for global scale seismic monitoring with near-real time reporting. I leveraged this experience to lead the company in developing tactical (local) seismology technologies focused on security and surveillance applications. In 2014, I closed $8M in venture funds to productize Quantum’s tactical seismology offerings and expand the company to a full systems provider. Out of this came Seismic Acoustic Detection and Ranging (SADAR®), a technology mathematically similar to SONAR and RADAR but seismic based and capable of detecting, classifying, locating, and tracking items of interest in the earth, air, or water domains. Most recently, I oversaw the company’s acquisition by Geospace Technologies, a world-class manufacturer and provider of geophysical data acquisition systems primarily for oil and gas exploration. Together, Quantum and Geospace are redefining Passive Seismics for both security and surveillance purposes as well as upstream oil and gas. I strive to contribute to the company my strengths of deep scientific understanding, innovative thinking, an intuition for market need, and leading an incredibly intelligent and driven staff. I also like to get to the field as often as possible because in my experience, dirt breeds innovation.
