Background

About Mark Umbricht

I am the Assistant Vice President of Strategic Research at the UNC System Office. I conduct research to assist the system in decision making and evaluate policy across the system. I lead a data team of 5 full-time staff that assist with these research and evaluation efforts, track our Strategic Plan metrics, provide data support for our K-12 teacher preparation programs, and support research projects across the System Office.I am formerly the Senior Project Manager for the University of Michigan Institutional Learning Analytics (UMILA) Committee. The committee blended academic research with institutional research to conduct studies about students at the University of Michigan. The committee produced several published papers, numerous internal reports, and provided valuable insights to support decision making across campus. I completed my PhD in Higher Education at Penn State University with a minor in statistics. My dissertation examined differences in postsecondary access and completion by first-generation status across two nationally representative NCES datasets (ELS:02 and HSLS:09).
