About Mark van de Kamp

Hello! I am the Public Information Manager for the City of Santa Maria, in my 21st rewarding year so far serving our municipality. My varied City responsibilities include communications, analysis, and budgeting. I earned a Master of Public Administration degree with highest honors from Cal-State Northridge, and a bachelor’s degree with two majors from UC Santa Barbara. I enjoy volunteering with Serve Santa Maria (SEE PHOTO) and am the board secretary. I believe in the importance of being encouraging and building others up. A former award-winning newspaper editor and reporter, I find fulfillment by serving God. I am now a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM). Was part of the City team that from 2007 to 2011 secured Federal funding to strengthen the Santa Maria River Levee, voiding the need for all property owners in Santa Maria to buy flood insurance. In 2023-24 led my team's efforts to upgrade the City Council Chambers and tower control room audio-visual systems, and we introduced live closed captioning in English and Spanish during meetings and webstreaming, to improve transparency for all residents.
