About Mark Vanderaar

Mark has over three decades of entrepreneurial, management, investment, M&A, research, and engineering experience. He is currently active as a founder and partner in Modelvest, LLC serving as an investor, advisor, board member, and educator in commercial and non-profit organizations.He was Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Efficient Channel Coding (ECC), a provider of advanced digital communications products. He guided ECC from a start-up, to a profitable company, to its acquisition by ViaSat (NASDAQ: VSAT). He was also an owner in a controls company that was acquired for its advanced products and intellectual property. Mark also worked at NASA Glenn Research Center where he was a manager and researcher for several contractors developing advanced satellite communications technologies. He began his career as a software developer for Gould Ocean Systems Division.Mark has made significant technical contributions in satellite communications, optical networking, forward error correction and broadband terrestrial applications. He currently has 20 patents and has contributed to numerous publications. He holds a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toledo and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics from Case Western Reserve University.
